I Created Social Media Content for One Month
Over the past month, I have been learning firsthand how to create content. I updated my website, Instagram, and Substack, with short video reels and blogs that follow my travel journey. If you are interested in my process and what I learned along the way, here is an overview of the last four weeks. I hope you enjoy!
What Makes Successful Content?
Nowadays, content is everywhere we look. There are numerous social platforms constantly fighting for our attention. This means the content you create needs to be worthwhile and provide some sort of value to the consumer.
When your content is easily digestible, understandable, and relatable your readers will show more engagement
This was my goal for all of the content I created over the last month.
I started by making a plan. I knew that I was going to start my first solo travel trip, so I was going to use this opportunity to film and write about what I was doing.
I planned to post 3-4 reels a week, along with 1-2 blog posts, and my weekly newsletter. I also wrote down some ideas so I knew what to film.
Then it was time to create! Keep reading if you want to see my content!
Blogs + Newsletters
For my blog posts, I decided to make a sort of “travel diary” that follows what I was doing each day. I made each excerpt short and sweet and added lots of photos so that it remained engaging. Although I enjoyed making this travel diary, it was difficult to write about my day when I didn’t have much going on.
Nonetheless, I think I am going to continue the diary even though this module is over.
I also made a blog at the end of my first three weeks about what I’ve learned so far. I enjoyed writing that post because it was different than the other content I was producing. I tried to keep this one short and easily digestible since I didn’t have an opportunity to insert photos. I plan to write another one when I finish the entire trip.
Finally, I continued to write my newsletters. Instead of giving a weekly recap like I usually do, I just decided to link my travel diary and add some extra photos to the newsletter.

Now for the main content that I focused on over the last month, my Instagram reels. I made a total of 11 reels. Three in the first week, and four in the following two weeks. I learned early on it was going to be a lot more difficult than expected. I didn’t realize how much content I needed to film for a 10-25-second video, and how long it took to go through the footage and edit the videos.
Although it was harder than expected, I was able to get into a routine and it became faster as the month went on. I also began to film a lot more content, which made editing easier as well.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed making all of the Instagram reels. Posting these videos on my social media was out of my comfort zone, but I learned so much about how social platforms work and how to track analytics on videos. I will definitely continue to post reels on my Instagram, now that I know how the process works, and I look forward to continue improving my editing and filming skills.
