Bali Travel Diary- 1

Hello, and welcome to my first travel diary! This will be a new series on my website, where I document all the places I go, starting with my first solo trip to Bali! Today marks one whole week in Indonesia, so here’s everything I’ve been up to!

Monday 12/4

I landed in Bali at 4 pm on Monday and was exhausted from my 32-hour travel day. I drove quite a while in heavy traffic from Denpasar to Canggu, where I spent the first half of the week. I had never been more ecstatic to lay in a bed, and the second I walked into my room, my head hit the pillow and that was it for my first night in Bali.

Tuesday 12/5

I hit the ground running on Tuesday morning when I woke up at 5 am from serious jet lag. I took some time to plan out my adventures in Canggu. I decided to take a yoga class that morning… but it was harder to get there than you would think. I realized I had no cash, which meant I couldn’t pay for my ride.

This meant I had to walk over 30 minutes to the nearest ATM.

The first thing I learned about Canggu is that it’s not a walkable city. After walking on the side of the road, in bushes, and through puddles, I finally made it to the ATM, got my cash, and took a Gojek scooter to yoga.

The location of the class was breathtaking and I loved every second of it. With a view of the ocean, and a perfect breeze, it couldn’t get any better.

I then made my way down to Batu Bolong Beach where I got chicken tacos and a mango smoothie. I met a really sweet girl named Agnes at the beach and we spent the rest of the day together. We went to the pool and got dinner on the beach. Such an awesome day!

Wednesday 12/6

Wednesday started with the best smoothie bowl I’ve ever had, while I read a book. It was so good!

I then went to the beach again and took a dip.

After that, Agnes texted me to meet up with her and an Australian couple she had met prior. I took a Gojek and spent the day with them by the pool. It was so great to learn all about them!

That night, I went back to Batu Bolong Beach to watch the sunset, and it was spectacular.

Thursday 12/7

On Thursday, I found myself back at the beach with the same smoothie bowl. I couldn’t resist! It was just too good. I spent most of Thursday working on schoolwork, planning the rest of the week, and hanging around my hostel. They had such an awesome outdoor space by the rice fields.

Later that night, I met up with a friend I had known from social media. We got dinner and then saw an outdoor movie with some of her other friends. It was great to meet all the girls!

Friday 12/8

Can you guess where my Friday started… that’s right, with a smoothie bowl at the beach. This was my last day in Canggu for a while so I needed to savor every last bite.

After packing up and a very unsuccessful trip to clean my laundry, I hopped in a car for two hours to Uluwatu. Uluwatu has the most beautiful beaches that I’ve ever seen. Here, I met two great friends, Theo and Alec. We got some lunch and then spent the rest of the day at the beach.

We found a great hidden area and had it all to ourselves. It was much fun to swim and compete against one another to see who could build the best rock statue. Theo’s was pretty great but ended up falling… leaving the winning spot to me!

The rest of the night we swam in the pool, got dinner, and played some games. Absolute blast.

Saturday 12/9

I spent all of Saturday with Theo and Alec again, since it was both of their last nights in Bali. We went to breakfast and I got… you guessed it! A smoothie bowl. Then we made our way to a new beach where we stayed for hours. We had no phones, no belongings, and just played games and swam in the water. That night we got sushi for dinner!

Unfortunately, I got food poisoning from the night before so I was nauseous for most of the day and had to take time to feel better. Thankfully it only lasted for one day!

Sunday 12/10

Sunday morning was spent getting breakfast and saying goodbye to Alec and Theo. We met at the beach, shopped for a little bit, then I was on my own! I’m sad our trips only overlapped for two days, but I hope to see them again!

I spent the night trying to catch up on some schoolwork (since my computer charger was broken and I couldn’t use it for four days) and watched the most amazing sunset at Uluwatu. It was a great end to the week.

And that’s where we conclude the week! I had no expectations for the adventures I was going to have, which made them all so rewarding. I never thought I would meet such great people that I could spend so much time with. I already miss my time with them!

I am more grateful everyday that I decided to go on this adventure. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the trip has in store, and I am going to take you all along for the ride! Thanks for joining the journey :)
